An opto compressor is faster than a Varimu. An opto tube like the OCL2 helps with RMS but not to chase huge peaks as a VCA would do.

I have a creative homestudio with lots of synths with no plans of becoming a mix or master engineer. So I'm used to spending ridiculous amounts of money. I do weekly livejams and I would love to take the end result just a bit higher with a basic mastering chain. I do mostly the same genre (melodic techno) so the chain wouldn't have to change that much. This was good advice. Just a unit like the Fusion, an EQ (I like how the Maag sounds) and a workhorse compressor like Distressor or Bus+ and I think I'm set.

For people that don’t understand: What’s he’s saying is that a “plug-in” is digital, so the signal that is even interpreted by the plug-in was analog originally. The only way to alter an analog signal in the domain of “analog” is to use other analog equipment. Once the signal passes through an A/D converter into the DAW, the signal is no longer “original” so tracking can no longer be performed. It’s like converting metric to imperial measurement. No matter what the measurements aren’t 1 : 1, so no matter how hard you try an analog signal can never be equal once it’s digital, so really it’s an entirely different signal in that sense. You can’t track something you never recorded, which is kinda how the conversion works in a broad sense.

Why not? I record with plugins in FL Studio one channel was my main effect other with reverb and Delay it's sounds clean and warm. What I can say is I lose transient but it's a clean tho. it was Waves Plugins and Fabrilter of course I have Preamp and Zoom Tac -8 WA-73 EQ.
